Vicente Magsaysay

(born January 20, 1940) is a Filipino politician
currently
serving as Governor of the province of Zambales. He is also a
senatorial
candidate running under the banner of TEAM Unity, the pro-Arroyo
administration coalition.
 Politics
Magsaysay is a veteran politician that came from the same political
family
of former President Ramon Magsaysay.[citation needed] He first served
as the
Governor of Zambales in 1968-1986. He relinquished the post after the
EDSA
Revolution of 1986.
He made his first attempt to return to the Philippine political scene
when
he accepted the invitation of former First Lady Imelda Marcos as her
vice
presidential candidate under the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (where he
ironically has ties to this day as an associate member) in the 1992
presidential elections. He eventually ended up second to the last,
garnering
3.4 percent of the total vote.
He successfully staged a political comeback in the 1998 elections when
he
again ran for the Governorship of Zambales. He won the said election
and was
subsequently re-elected in 2001 and 2004.[citation needed]

election approaches and unfolds.
To the surprise of everyone, he accepted the nomination of Lakas CMD to
run
in the May 14, 2007 midterm elections under the Team Unity umbrella.
His
name wasn't mentioned in any previous surveys before being selected in
February 10, 2007.

Governor Vic Magsaysay descended from the illustrious Magsaysay clan that spawned one of the finest presidents of the republic and public servants who served in the houses of Congress and local governments. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce from Letran College in Manila.

Governor Vic appeared to belong to the provincial capitol since 1967 when he became the youngest elected governor of the province at the age of 27. In 1971, he was re-elected. In 1978, he became an assemblyman at the defunct Batasan under the banner of the KBL. At the close of this term, he was appointed governor of the province. This encore was repeated when he won in the local elections of 1980, still serving in the capacity of governor until 1986. In 1998, he ran and again won the people’s mandate.

The thing that keeps him glued to the capitol’s highest seat is not just his charismatic leadership, but good governance that he revitalizes with each re-election through the up-scaled and re-engineered delivery of basic people’s services.
